I stumbled upon the Zuri x I4G training opportunity about two weeks ago. This is the third consecutive learning programme I would be signing up for in less than a year. Having completed one, the second still in progress, I was rather reluctant applying for a third.
However, because I've been told several times by well meaning friends not to "place all my eggs in one basket" so to speak, I completed the application form. To my greatest surprise, the feedback was instant and I got accepted almost immediately.
About the internship
So I got accepted to learn and work with the language I love (Python) and I will be looking to become a badass backend programmer at the end of the programme.
It has only been one week but my experience so far in the training has had several benefits.
Firstly, I have come to be familiar with terms like channels and threads, their use cases, and the difference between them. While I'm not a total beginner at using slack workspaces, I wasn't aware of some key features of slack and its advantages over other apps used for communications and collaborations.
Secondly, I have been able to put my social skills to the test during the first week. It has not yielded much result though because I do find it hard to join a conversation or even start one. However, I have about three (3) active chats on slack with fellow backend devs. I know a time will come when I will have to collaborate with others so I'm not bothered about this just yet.
Lastly, the games played in the #games channels are really fun and if not for my slow phone, maybe I would have won several cash prizes by now (lol). It's all good anyway and just as the saying goes: "Good things take time", I know something good awaits me at the end of this training.
Big thanks to the organizers and all the mentors.
P.S This is my first blog post on hashnode. Finding something to write about is a huge challenge but I hope to document my entire Zuri experience here. If you think it's a good idea please leave a response or a thumbs up. Thanks
